Our Sustainability Commitment
At The Puzzling World of Professor Kettlestring, we are actively making a positive impact on our environment, community, and beyond. Here’s how we are doing it:
Supporting Our Local Community
We work closely with local suppliers and artisans to reduce our environmental footprint. These Include Choc Affair in York, Bon Bons at Tockwith and Farrah’s of Harrogate.
We regularly donate to and fundraise for local charities to give back to our community. Examples are free ticket donations to Dunnington AFC Juniors, York Futsal, York Menfulness and Poppleton Ousebank School. Our team also often volunteer at York Bid Rejuvenation events- planting new plants, cleaning and painting pieces of street furniture in York city centre.
We actively support local festivals and community events that celebrate diversity and bring people together. Recent examples include our participation in York Pride.
Encouraging Sustainable Travel
We encourage sustainable travel options for visitors and staff. At least 90% of staff travel to and from work is sustainable.
Visitors are encouraged to use sustainable travel with our collaboration with Transdev where visitors receive a 10% discount on their admission price if they produce a Transdev Treats reciept or bus ticket dated the same day they wish to visit.
We also offer 10% off admission when you travel with Grand Central, simply book direct with Grand Central and show a valid booking confirmation for walk in admissions at The Puzzling World of Professor Kettlestring.
Creating a Fair and Supportive Workplace
We provide a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all team members.
We promote wellbeing and maintain a positive workplace culture through ongoing support. We aim to have at least one member of staff trained as a mental first aider during the 2025-2026 season.
All team members are paid the Real Living Wage as a minimum.
Promoting Accessibility and Education
We ensure our attraction is welcoming and accessible to visitors of all abilities.
We actively inspire learning by offering engaging educational experiences for families and schools.
Taking Environmental Responsibility
We use energy-efficient LED lighting and smart technology to reduce power consumption. Including timed sensor lighting in staff areas and where possible within the attraction. We continue to monitor our water usage and reduce consumption where possible.
We recycle materials and minimise waste wherever possible throughout our operations. We recycle 95% of all cardboard, plastic and glass used in our organisation and aim for a 99% recycle rate by September 2026.
Phasing out the use of plastic carrier bags to sustainable paper ones.
Using electronic tickets that avoid the need for printing/paper.
Where possible, we reuse or repurpose props and materials, breathing new life into them, much like Professor Kettlestring’s inventions. York upcyclers New Earswick Community Wood Yard which is volunteer lead create some of our exhibits from unwanted pallets.
Upholding Ethical Operations
We operate with integrity, strictly following laws, respecting human rights, and maintaining high ethical standards.
Making a Bigger Difference
We recognise that our attraction impacts the environment, community, and society, and we take responsibility for this.
We support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including clean energy, quality education, and responsible consumption.
We believe every small action counts, from recycling to energy saving, and actively incorporate these into what we do.
We regularly review our sustainability practices and actively welcome feedback to help us improve. By continuously exploring new ways to reduce our environmental and social impact, we treat sustainability as an ongoing journey, always striving to do better, much like the ever-evolving puzzles in Professor Kettlestring’s world.

What People Say...
We visited this place out of curiosity and with a very open mind.
We certainly were not disappointed. The staff throughout were friendly, attentive and entertaining. It may only be a small venue but they have packed a lot of curiosities in with plenty of quirky photo opportunities.
Highly recommend.
